How to pack the perfect healthy picnic for two
I live in a place where the weather is not permitting to actually enjoy the outdoors for much of the year, so when the weather finally turns I take every opportunity to have a picnic date. Eating in the grass in your bare feet has a romance that you just don’t get in a restaurant or at home. Not to mention the rejuvenating feeling you get just by enjoying the fresh air. We keep ourselves cooped up inside on our computers or in front of the TV for far too many hours of the day. Just going outside for fresh air and a little Vitamin D can make a huge impact on your mood and well being.
When you’re having an impromptu picnic, a nice cheese and meat plate with lots of fruits and olives makes for an easy spread. Don’t be shy about talking to the person behind the cheese counter at your grocery store. They’ve likely tasted a lot of the cheeses and if you tell them your preferences they can help pick out a nice variety. It’s really easy to blindly choose a cheese that you end up not liking, so ask the cheesemonger to taste any of their recommendations. But when you’ve had multiple picnics recently and need to change it up a bit, mainly stop eating so much cheese, it can be tough to find healthy portable picnic foods for two.
One of the best parts of a romantic picnic for two is the simplicity of the foods and how quickly it can come together. Which is why a meat and cheese spread just works so dang well. So to keep the spontaneity without overindulging, fruits and olives can stay in your spread, but consider adding one or two simple dishes that need just a little prep work rather than succumbing to the simplicity of the cheese spread.
